The Importance of Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry is the first line of defense when it comes to safeguarding your smile. By taking a proactive approach to your oral health, such as brushing and flossing regularly and attending your biannual dental visits, you can maintain healthy teeth and gums and treat any dental concerns while they’re still minor. Preventive dentistry can save you from more costly, complex dental procedures down the road!

Teeth Cleanings & Exams

According to the American Dental Association, everyone should visit the dentist every six months for a routine checkup, which usually involves a teeth cleaning and exam. Dental checkups are a great way to keep your smile in great shape and they also give our team a chance to catch any potential issues while they’re still small.

While most patients can be seen two times a year for a routine cleaning and examination, individuals with gum disease should be seen more often. At Greenway Dental, we will work with you to determine what type of dental cleaning is most appropriate for your specific situation as well as how often to be seen to maintain optimum oral health.

Dental Sealants

It’s natural to have grooves and crevices on the chewing surfaces of teeth. However, these grooves can be breeding grounds for cavities and decay. We use dental sealants (plastic, clear coatings) to fill in the crevices in order to prevent bad bacteria and food debris from collecting inside of them.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is a key player in strengthening and preserving tooth enamel. Fluoride can be found in drinking water and in most toothpaste, but sometimes, our teeth (especially children’s) need an extra fluoride boost. After your cleaning is complete, we can quickly brush on some fluoride which can make a world of difference for your smile.

Custom Sportsguards & Nightguards

Whether you are participating in contact sports or grinding your teeth at night, we can create a custom-fitted mouthguard to protect your teeth, jaw, and overall oral health. Mouthguards create a thick barrier between your teeth and anything that can damage them. With professional-made mouthguards, you can ensure that your mouth is protected.

Sleep Apnea Appliances

Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder caused by the soft tissues in the back of the throat collapsing and blocking the airway during sleep. To combat OSA, we can create a custom sleep apnea oral appliance that repositions your jaw to keep your airway open while you sleep. Our oral appliances can help you get the good night’s sleep that you deserve!

Dr. LaChance

Recently, Greenway Dental's Dr. Sam LaChance was named one of Minneapolis' Top Dentists on the 2020 list compiled by Minneapolis St Paul Magazine.

Mpls.St.Paul Magazine asked Twin Cities dentists to nominate other dentists they consider to be exceptional in the field - peers they would consult themselves if they were in need of a specialized dental professional. After they received nominations, they then grouped candidates into specialties and evaluated numerous factors. A few of these factors include (but are not limited to) peer recognition, professional achievement, and disciplinary history. Dental professionals who had the highest score from each grouping were invited to serve on a blue-ribbon panel to evaluate the other candidates.

At the end of the process, Mpls.St.Paul selected the 2020 Top Dentists, choosing only the dentists who'd acquired the highest point totals from the surveys, research, and blue-ribbon panel review. The final list contains approximately 10% of active dentists in the 10-county metro area.
